Pak 40 75mm Anti-Tank Gun

During World War II, the primary 75mm anti-tank gun used by German forces was the Pak 40, with 23,303 guns produced.  It was the backbone of German anti-tank units from 1942 onwards, and was highly effective against almost all Allied tanks, including the Sherman and T-34.

After WWII, the Pak 40 remained in service in several European armies, kept in service into the 1960s.  North Vietnam also received some during the Vietnam War.  Six ex-Portuguese Army Pak 40s divided into two artillery detachments were stationed in Dili during the Indonesian invasion of East Timor in 1975.

German Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper) units used the Pak 40 anti-tank 75 mm gun during World War II, particularly in the latter war years (1943-45).  Whilst originally designated airborne forces, the high losses of these elite infantry during the 1941 Crete campaign, forced them to fight as mainly ground-based infantry and Panzerjäger (tank hunter) units in Italy, France, and the Battle of the Bulge, although there were late war airborne drops, they were never on the same scale as Crete.

A little background behind this set, originally it was envisaged we would have four SS pushing the cannon manually into a new gun position, but it proved impossible to achieve this for one reason or another.  After talking with Paul Goodsell and Stefan Farrelly (both great friends of the company), we came up with the idea of a late war FJ team in action, something never done (to our knowledge) in 1/30 scale before.  Although the original idea never came to fruition, the compromise came out better than the original idea!

Limited to 100 worldwide.
