Liberation of France was brought about by the combined military efforts of the Western Allied Powers, Free French forces, and the French Resistance. As the Allies advanced and the Germans retreated, the populations of village after village and town after town poured into the streets to greet their ‘liberators’, happy to see the end of four years of brutal Nazi occupation and Vichy French collaboration!
