The flag represents the standard from Charles Stewart of Ardshael's Appin Regiment. A yellow saltire on a blue field. The regiment joined the Jacobite army in August 1745, and its first engagement was at the Battle of Prestonpans on 21st September 1745. Almost one year later at The Battle of Culloden, Ardsheal and his regiment of 150 men, described as "followers of Appin", stood on the right of the Jacobite front line with only Lochiel's Camerons on their right.
