Napoleonic Austrians Advancing
Marching proudly into the heart of 19th-century Europe, these German-speaking Austrian infantry represent the backbone of the Habsburg Empire's military during the Napoleonic Wars. Drawn primarily from the empire's heartlands--modern-day Austria, southern Germany, and parts of Bohemia--they formed the majority of its fighting strength during the Napoleonic Wars. They fought valiantly from the campaigns of 1805, seeing action across Europe from the Danube to Leipzig, and played a crucial role in the coalitions that ultimately brought down Napoleon.
Regiments were drawn from specific regions, giving rise to their "German" designation-distinguishing them from Hungarian, Croatian, or other ethnic units in the multinational Habsburg army.
Austrian units were often conservative in tactics, but well-drilled and capable of standing firm against Napoleon's finest.
