Japanese Infantry Machine-Gun Section--nine figures (officer, two HMGs and crews, SMG/LMG, three riflemen)
This set contains nine model soldiers comprising of one officer, two heavy machine guns plus crew (four figures), a light machine gunner, with sub-machine gun option, and three riflemen. This set shares the same parts and models as 54PWJ02, except that two machine guns are provided with a reduction in the number of riflemen.
A machine gun section is made up of a gun component and an ammo-supply component with pack horses. At the front line, the pack animals are kept out sight, while the assigned infantrymen serve as riflemen.
In this set, we have modelled all the soldiers as having netted helmets as compared with PWJ 01 where the soldiers have plain steel helmets. This appearance is more representative of the Japanese on the defensive somewhere in the tropics. The heavy machine gun modelled is the Type 92 “woodpecker”, nicknamed by the Americans from the sound of its firing. This is the most common issued gun for the Japanese.
We have included a Type 100 sub-machine gun option for these sets. Although they are not commonly issued, various escort and specialist units do carry a few of the weapons.
This set of grenade arms was originally meant for the first box-set, but due to toolings constraints, we can only slot it into this second set.
We have assembled the grenade-thrower in a different combination. The head and flag can be placed onto any of the other models as desired.
As mentioned before, the Japanese soldier has at least two types of battle dress: the regulation tunic as presented in this set; and a tropical jungle battle dress which we will be producing in a later set. It is has always been our intent to keep the models of a box-set within the same tactical context and thus all the models of this set wear the same helmet for uniformity.
*Note: matches up in scale with Toy Soldiers of San Diego and other larger 1/32 scale figures.
Due to be released in DECEMBER 2020.
